A first morning at Calyx

You wake to the sound of the canopy.

The kitchen is already lit by the sun. You slide the doors open and the room becomes the jungle. Coffee, by the deck. The pool is still glass. The surf is far enough away to sound like weather.

The first time you stay at Casa Calyx, you spend the morning learning where the light falls — which chair is best at seven, which window catches the wind at ten. By the second day, you stop checking your phone. By the third, you know.

Orientation

Built for the cross-breeze.

Casa Calyx was sited to capture the corridor of wind that runs between the Pacific and the nature reserve. Open every door and the air moves through the entire home.

What a vibe! Eating fruit and coconuts with the jungle trees and view of the waves, unmatched. The open kitchen with the sliding windows is amazing when it rains.

A guest, on the record

Great location in the heart of Santa Teresa but off the beaten path so very private. Watch the surfers below from the king pool while the monkeys watch you from the trees.

In the spirit of full disclosure

A few honest notes.

Casa Calyx is a jungle home in Costa Rica. A few things are worth knowing before you book.

  • 01

Plumbing is septic-sensitive — toilet paper goes in the bin beside the toilet (common practice in Santa Teresa).

  • 02

Not suitable for children under 10.

  • 03

    No TV — by design.

  • 04

No washer or dryer on site; laundromat nearby.

  • 05

Most guests rent an ATV — easiest way to get around town. We can arrange this for you, or a 4×4 works too.

On the ground

Someone's always here.

Casa Calyx has a full-time on-site groundskeeper and 24-hour security on the property. You won't see them unless you need them — but they're here. Watering the garden, cleaning between stays, available if something needs fixing.

Jano, our co-host, lives in Santa Teresa and responds within an hour. The keyless lock means you arrive on your own schedule. The combination means you get the privacy of a private home with the back-up of a small hotel.

Questions

Before you book.

How many guests can Casa Calyx host?

+

Casa Calyx sleeps 6 across 3 bedrooms (4 beds) and 2.5 bathrooms.

Is the office bedroom usable for remote work?

+

Yes — the third bedroom is a single bed plus an extra-wide desk built for two, with A/C and a walk-out balcony. Fiber wifi, Starlink backup, and a backup generator keep it stable through outages.

How far is the beach?

+

A short walk down the mountain road — about ten minutes on foot. Most guests rent an ATV in town for getting around (we can arrange this); a 4×4 also works.

Is the pool heated?

+

The infinity pool is open 24 hours and unheated — the climate keeps it swimmable year-round.

Can I rent an ATV through you?

+

Yes — most guests do, and it's the most convenient way to get around Santa Teresa. We'll connect you with a trusted local rental on arrival, or arrange delivery to the villa.

Are there things I should know before booking?

+

Plumbing is septic-sensitive (toilet paper in the bin, common in Santa Teresa). Not suitable for children under 10. No TV, no washer/dryer; laundromat nearby.

Ready when you are

Pick your dates. We'll leave the rest to the canopy.
